Anyone who knows me knows my that Penetration are my favourite band. I was devastated when they split in 1979 but equally overjoyed when I found out in 2002 they were gigging again. It seems weird that for nearly 14 years they have been gigging on & off and released two new 7 inch singles without really pushing on.
But now, funded by a highly successful Pledge campaign the band have a new album recorded & ready for release. “Resolution” will see the light of day in early October and features re-recorded versions of Guilty, The Feeling & Sea Song & 9 other new tracks including a track called Beat Goes On which is going to be a Penetration classic! One of the songs, “Two Places (Dos Dugares)” can be heard streamed on line.
I was lucky enough to go to a an album launch at the bands Polestar studios & hear the album in full. It sounds like the Penetration of old, strong rhythm section, distinctive dual guitars and Pauline Murray’s iconic vocals but all brought up to date for 2015. The art work is by renowned graphic designer Vaughan Oliver who was responsible for some many of the stunning 4AD album sleeves.
Featuring original members Pauline Murray (vocals) and Rob Blamire (bass) with long standing guitarists Steve Wallace & Paul Harvey the band now also feature ex Buzzcock John Maher on drums. As part of the pledge campaign the band recorded a cover of Buzzcocks classic song I Don’t Mind.
Penetration are back, firing on all cylinders with a new album and all the old classics to boot. The show at the Georgian Theatre on Friday 18th September will see the first live airing of tracks from “Resolution”
