Spear Of Destiny Return To Middlesbrough – New Show Announced

Kirk Brandon’s Spear Of Destiny return to Middlesbrough.

After a run of sell out shows in Stockton The Westgarth Social Club provides a change of scenery for an extra special warm up show ahead of the bands highly successful Westworld Weekend Event.

SPEAR OF DESTINY were formed in 1983 after the demise of Kirk Brandon’s post punk iconic rockers THEATRE OF HATE. (Brandon had also, before TOH, been the main man in every punk rockers favorite band of that era The Pack)
.
The current line up of Spear is the longest serving to date and features Adrian Portas (New Model Army / Sex Gang Children), Craig Adams (Sisters of Mercy / The Cult / The Mission) and Mike Kelly (The Mission).

Joining SOD on this show are iconic punk legends Spizz Enrgi. Mercurial punk survivor Spizz made his debut at the Birmingham, England club Barbarella’s during an all-day music festival held at the end of August 1977, performing an improvised set on a borrowed guitar; returning two months later by drummer Pete Petrol, he now billed the act as Spizz 77, the first of numerous name changes to follow in the years to come. Re-christened SPIZZOIL, the duo earned their first significant notice in 1978 opening for Siouxsie and the Banshees, resulting in a John Peel session which itself led to an offer from Rough Trade to record an EP, 6000 Crazy. The record topped the UK indie charts, as did its follow-up, Cold City 4; however, Spizz and Petrol parted ways soon after, and with new bassist Jim Solar and keyboardist Mark Coalfield, SPIZZENERGI was launched in early 1979. Petrol then returned on guitar for the group’s stint on the Rough Trade tour; after “Soldier, Soldier” was named Single of the Week in the NME, the follow-up, “Where’s Captain Kirk?,” earned the same honour in Melody Maker, topping the new official UK indie charts for eight consecutive weeks in 1980.

Completing the bill are The Antiseptics, a punk band from Middlesbrough in the North East. The bands influences range from 2-Tone to Hardcore and include inspiration from bands such as The Angelic Upstarts, Rancid and The Exploited among many others.
